Overview
Do you have specific pages in Confluence, which are intended to be read by selected employees? Then you need a tool for managing such reading requests – Confluence Readers.
Confluence add-on Readers gives you ability to require specific “Readers” for your pages. Each reader request is represented as a “reader element” and can be viewed on every page by selecting menu item “Readers” from the standard Confluence page menu. All users can check their reader requests by the same way.
Readers Administrator
Readers administrator can manage (create, check, delete) all readers requests (elements) on particular Confuence page.
Readers administrator is simply user which:
- Has administration permission in the given space.
- Is author (i.e. creator) of the given page.
Note: Anonymous users cannot be neither administrators nor standard readers.
Adding Readers
You can simply add new readers by clicking “Add readers” button in the toolbar.
Then you have to select users and/or groups as desired readers. Selecting some group(s) means that all the users from this group(s) will be added as readers, except: potentional duplicate elements and users who do not have VIEW permission to this page.
Be aware of selecting very large groups (> 1000 users) because of potential impact on performace while rendering Readers for page.
Next step of the dialog wizzard concerns about specifying Due date (and time) for selected readers. You can also decide whether to notify all selected users. Standard Confluence notification centre is used.
Indeed, you cannot select Due date in past.
After successful dialog submit, you will be informed about really added users.
Checking readers
Table on the Readers screen shows complete list of added readers with their reading statuses, exact visit dates etc.
Statuses can be:
- Waiting – reader has not visited page yet
- OK – reader has already visited page (before the Due)
- Overdue (cleared) – reader has not still visited page (after the Due)
- Overdue (filled) – reader has already visited page (after the Due)
Removing readers
Reader elements which are active (i.e. its readers have not visited the page yet) can be deleted. You can remove elements one by one simply by clicking on Remove link on the right.
You can also use Bulk remove readers – by clicking Remove readers button from the toolbar and selecting All removable readers.
Do not worry, this operation has to be confirmed.
Readers – Common User
As a common users, you do not have to do anything special. When you display particular page, your visit is recorded on the backgroud. If the author of the reader request decided to notify users, you can see the request in your Confluence notification centre.
Sometimes you would like to check, if there are any reader requests on you regarding the page you are currently viewing. Then you can select menu item “Readers” from the standard Confluence page menu.
On this screen – you see all readers requests set to you with their statuses, Dues etc. Yes, you can have more than one request per page, because the page content could be changed
and its author would create a new request for your attention.
